When you are packing up your entire house and moving it to another location, there are plenty of opportunities for stress. Moving can be exciting, but it can also be highly frustration. There are plenty of things you can do to ease the tension and make your move go more smoothly.
One of the things people do to ease the stress of moving is to look into hiring moving companies. This can shift a lot of the duties to the company and off of you and your family. Moving companies can pack, load the truck and unload your items at your new home. You will still have a lot of work to do when it comes to unpacking, but most of the work will be shifted onto the company.
If you decide to make the move yourself, using family and friends as your movers, there are things you can do to prepare for the big event. First, make sure you have plenty of supplies before you begin packing. That means you will need lots of boxes, newspaper, packing tape, bubble wrap and pens. You can always return unused supplies so get more than you think you will need. It is a good idea to include wardrobe boxes in your list of items to get. These boxes are tall and are good for packing clothes or other bulky, lightweight items like pillows and blankets.
Once the packing begins, move from room to room and pack items together that you will want to keep in similar rooms in the new home. All of your kitchen items will go into your new kitchen so pack those things together and label the boxes. Likewise, as you move through the house, label the boxes carefully in accordance to how you want them placed in the new home. That way, once you begin unloading the truck at the new location, you will not have to take time to direct your helpers. The boxes will be clearly labeled and easy to place.
As you pack, keep your most valuable possessions in safe locations. Do not put important antiques, special jewelry or other heirlooms in with all of your other items. Pack these things in a special case and keep it with you so nothing gets damaged or lost.
If it is going to be awhile before you have time to fully unpack at your new home, make use of your luggage to move items you will need in the meantime. Pack your suitcases with clothes, toiletry items and things like towels, necessary kitchen supplies and other items you will need to use before you are completely unpacked. That way, you will not have to rush through unpacking just to find certain items. |
